A rooftop tent is a load. A ground tent is a different plan.
Choose a rooftop tent only when the vehicle’s dynamic roof or bed-rack limit can carry the tent, rack, awning, and mounts while you drive. A ground tent does not put that mass on the roof. Our three kits include rooftop-tent references, not a ground tent. Neither choice is a fitment approval, and neither is validated for checkout.
| Question | Rooftop tent | Ground tent |
|---|---|---|
| Travel mass on the roof or bed rack | Yes. Count tent, rack, awning, and mounts. | No roof load from the tent. Cargo in the vehicle still counts toward payload. |
| Needs a validated rack or roof | Yes. | No. |
| In the three kit lists | Yes, as a reference part. | No. |
| Setup | Usually faster once the tent is mounted. Mounting day is the hard part. | Pitch it where you park. No rack required. |
| Wind and height | You are higher, and the tent maker’s wind note still applies. | You are on the ground. Stake it the way that tent maker says. |

How we use this
If the roof or the bed cannot carry the tent, the honest offer is a ground camp, a fridge, and power — or no sale. A signature on a waiver is not a rating.
Questions
Is a rooftop tent always better?
No. It is off the ground and quicker for some people. It is also heavier, taller, and dependent on a rack rating a ground tent does not need.
Do the kits include a ground tent?
No. Weekend Camp, Trail Comfort, and Extended Camp are rooftop reference lists. A ground-tent camp is a separate quote.
Which tent is in the hard-shell kit?
Trail Comfort cites Rough Country 99057. That tent is incompatible with the 99047 270-degree awning.
